#16 - Light intensity and Spectrum Measurements

🔦 What and how do we measure in a light source? – Light Intensity and Spectrum

When examining an LED or any light source, two questions are the most important:
1️⃣ How strong is the light? (light intensity)
2️⃣ What is its composition? (spectrum: RGB or HSI, dominant wavelength)

In practice, these are measured using fiber-optic LED analyzers.

➡️ Industrial solutions:
⤷ FEASA LED Analyzer
⤷ Equip-Test LED optical heads

➡️ How does it work?
⤷ The optical head guides the light to a sensor
⤷ 1 sensor → light intensity
⤷ 3 sensors → spectral components
⤷ The signal is analog and integrated; the integration time sets the sensitivity

➡️ What should you pay attention to?
⤷ Ambient light can distort the measurement even on the millisecond scale
⤷ The optical fiber must be continuous, without interruption
⤷ Stable geometry → stable measurement
