#37 - HIPOT Monitoring Functions

⚡ HIPOT Monitoring Functions – Handling Pre-Measurement Edge Cases

Some HIPOT instruments include monitoring and verification functions designed to filter out edge cases before the high voltage is applied.

👉 Short-circuit check:
– The instrument applies a low voltage to the DUT
– Measures the resulting current
– If the current is too high, a short circuit is indicated
– High voltage is not applied

👉 Connection check:
– Low-voltage capacitance measurement at a few hundred Hz
– Excessively high capacitance → poor or incorrect contact
– The measurement is aborted

If the instrument provides these functions, it is advisable to use them before the measurement in order to avoid false-positive results caused by faults in the measurement setup.
